A single drum flaker is a highly efficient industrial machine used to solidify molten materials into dry, solid flakes in a single, continuous operation. It achieves this by applying a thin film of the liquid to a rotating, cooled drum, where it solidifies before being scraped off by a blade.
The single drum flaker operates through a continuous, four-step cycle:
1) Feeding: The hot, molten material is evenly applied to the surface of a rotating, horizontal drum. The feed method (e.g., a dip tray for low-viscosity liquids or an applicator roller for pastes) depends on the product's properties.
2) Cooling and Solidification: As the drum rotates, its interior is continuously cooled using water, brine, or another coolant. This rapidly draws heat through the drum's shell, causing the thin film of product on the outside to solidify.
3) Scraping and Discharging: A precisely adjustable "doctor blade" or scraper knife scrapes the solidified product off the drum's surface. This produces flakes of a uniform, controllable thickness that fall into a discharge chute.
4) Collection: The final dry flakes are then collected by a hopper or conveyor for packaging or further processing.

6) Clean Operation: The enclosed design helps minimize operator exposure to hot materials and contains dust or toxic vapors.
Single drum flakers are versatile and used across many industries:
1) Chemicals & Petrochemicals: To solidify fatty acids, waxes, resins, caustic soda, calcium chloride, and zinc stearate.
2) Food & Oleochemicals: For processing palm stearin, hydrogenated vegetable fats, lecithin, and food additives.
3) Pharmaceuticals: To produce solid flakes of pharmaceutical compounds and intermediates.
4) Specialty Products: For manufacturing textile softeners, plastic stabilizers, soaps, and detergents.
